QUEENS — Friends of a woman stabbed to death in her Ridgewood apartment Wednesday are raising money to help her family pay for funeral costs.

Police say Carolyn Bush, 25, was repeatedly stabbed by her roommate after a heated dispute around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday inside the woman's bedroom at 1861 Stanhope St.

The roommate, Render Stetson Shanahan, 26, then walked out of the building, saying "I don't think I'm going to have a lease anymore," witnesses told DNAinfo New York.

Bush was pronounced dead at Wyckoff Hospital. Shanahan was arrested, and admitted to police he killed Bush and stabbed himself, sources said.

Friends of Bush on Friday set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for funeral costs.

"She was one of those friends that each time I would see her, it was as if no time had passed, and we could pick up at any conversation as we pleased," wrote page organizer Masha Mitkov. "Coco, you are missed by a sea of anguished people."

As of Sunday afternoon, the page received more than 60 donations, reaching $2,195 of the $7,239 goal.

According to her friends, Bush was studying literary theory at the New School, and helped co-found Wendy's Subway, a non-profit library that holds readings, screenings, discussions, writing workshops and free courses, according to its website.

Wendy's Subway, at 379 Bushwick Ave., will hold a vigil Sunday at 5 p.m. in Bush's honor, according to the fundraising page.

Shanahan was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and criminal mischief. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, according to the Queens District Attorney.
