MIDTOWN — A pair of thieves were caught stealing more than $1,000 worth of soaps, moisturizers and toothpaste from a 24-hour Duane Reade on Park Avenue South and East 28th Street, police said.

Lola Hayes, 44, and Charles Terry, 56, walked out of the store with the stolen goods at about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 22 and were immediately arrested by plain clothes officers outside, according to authorities.

The items included Crest toothpaste, Cetaphil moisturizer, Soap & Glory “Peaches and Clean” face soap, Icy Hot and Charleston Chew candies, according to a police spokesman.

Both were charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

A judge released Hayes without bail and ordered Terry, whose criminal record includes more than 10 years in prison on convictions including robbery and drug dealing, held on $2,500 bail, according to a DA spokesman.

The store has fallen victim to shoplifters before, including a crew of Ben & Jerry’s bandits who stole more than $3,000 worth of ice cream from there in August.

Lawyers for the pair did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
