BROOKLYN — A man tried to set a Bed-Stuy check cashing shop on fire after a failed attempt to rob the location Saturday morning, police said.

The unidentified suspect walked into the Pay-O-Matic at 160 Rockaway Ave. about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, demanding money from the clerk behind the counter, according to police.

The man then poured gasoline all over the floor, and threatened to ignite it. He lit a match and dropped it before fleeing the scene, but the gasoline did not catch fire, police said.

There were no injuries at the scene, police said.

The NYPD on Saturday released surveillance video of the man they say tried to rob the store. He was last scene wearing a black jacket with a black shoulder bag and a multicolored hat.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800)577-TIPS(8477) or for Spanish, (888)57-PISTA(74782). The public can also submit their tips by texting 274637(CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
