Woman High on Xanax Crashes Car on Staten Island, Prosecutors Say

By Nicholas Rizzi | September 15, 2016 6:24pm

ANNADALE — A woman high on Xanax smashed her car head-on into another vehicle on Staten Island, prosecutors said.

Rosemarie Johnson, 54, was driving her Honda on Tuesday when she crashed into a Dodge on Amboy Road and May Place about 3 p.m., authorities said.

When officers arrived and talked to Johnson, she slurred her speech, gave incoherent answers, was unable to answer questions and was falling asleep, according to court documents.

Johnson told police that she took Xanax and other prescription drugs earlier in the day before she got behind the wheel, prosecutors said.

She was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs at her Wednesday arraignment, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

Johnson was released without bail and is due back in court on Nov. 18.

Her lawyer did not want to comment for the story.
