With all the sweet embellishments that come with a Black Tap milkshake, it may seem like excess to spike it by adding an optional shot of booze.

Bourbon, however, takes starring role in the limited-edition Boozy Donut Shake debuting next Wednesday at the David Burke Kitchen at the James Hotel in SoHo.

The creation, a joint effort by the eatery's executive pastry chef Tracy Wilk and Black Tap's staff, is essentially a caramel milkshake spiked with Breckenridge bourbon. What elevates it beyond the ordinary are a brownie batter and cookie dough rim, and toppings that include whipped cream, toffee bits and a caramel-glazed toffee nut donut.

The shake will make its fleeting appearance at a Sept. 21 end-of-summer bash that will also feature Black Tap burgers, bourbon cocktails and a menu prepared by David Burke Kitchen's executive chef. Tickets, available here, cost $65.

Collaborating is an old trick for Black Tap, a SoHo comfort food restaurant that added shakes to its menu in November 2015. In recent weeks, the restaurant partnered with Eileen's Special Cheesecake in Nolita to create the New Yorker shake, Brigadeiro Bakery in SoHo to bring diners a passion fruit concoction called the 100 Yard Dash, and Magnolia Bakery to present the cupcake-topped Birthday Shake

Just because they've done it before doesn't mean we crave their magnificently extravagant calorie bombs any less.
