CONCOURSE — Wrestling will arrive at Yankee Stadium for the first time next year thanks to a battle between Rutgers University and the University of Maryland.

The wrestling teams from the two schools will face off against each other at the famed ballpark on Nov. 4, 2017 as part of a doubleheader that will also include a football game in what is being dubbed the "Big Ten Battle in The Bronx."

The wrestling match will take place first and will be the only one ever held at the venue, according to the NCAA.

"It is an incredible opportunity for our program to compete inside Yankee Stadium," Rutgers head wrestling coach Scott Goodale said. "We are absolutely honored to wrestle inside one of the greatest cathedrals in all of sport."

The Rutgers football team has played at the current Yankee Stadium three times and amassed a 2-1 record. The team has played a total of 12 games at the ballpark dating back to 1926 overall.

Ticketing information for the "Big Ten Battle in The Bronx" has not been announced yet, according to the NCAA.

Goodale said that he would have never envisioned the Rutgers wrestling team competing at a place like Yankee Stadium when the program first started.

"This is significant not only for the Rutgers and Maryland programs," he said, "but for the sport of wrestling."
