Where to Find Barbecue Friendly Parks in NYC

NEW YORK — Looking for a place to fire up the barbecue grill in the park this summer? DNAinfo.com New York has a roundup of all of the city parks that allow barbecuing and grilling, so you can kick off your season with a bang.

Under the rules of the city's Department of Parks & Recreation, parkgoers can go to one of the 37 following parks to do cook outside, on the condition that they grill in designated areas only.

Rules also ban barbecuing under trees, and mandate that coals and litter must be disposed of in trash receptacles.

Here's a roundup of all the parks that allow barbecuing across the city:

Manhattan:

St. Nicholas Park; at St. Nicholas Avenue between West 133rd and 135th Streets. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m. 

St. Nicholas Park; at St. Nicholas Terrace between West 128th and West 141st Streets. BBQ pits at West 128th Street. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

East River Park; at FDR Drive and East 10th Street. Special permit required to BBQ, click here to apply. BBQ pits along East 10th Street. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Randall's Island Park; between the East River and Harlem River, at the far end of the Sunken Meadow ballfields. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Fort Washington Park; at Riverside Drive between West 155th and West 179th Streets. BBQ pits north of West 158th Street. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Highbridge Park; at West 155th and Dyckman Streets, Edgecomb and Amsterdam Avenues. BBQ pits located at West 177th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Inwood Hill Park; at Dyckman Street and Hudson River and Harlem River South.  Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Morningside Park; at West 110th to West 123 Streets, Manhattan to Morningside Avenues. BBQ pits located at Morningside Avenue and West 122nd Street. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Riverside Park; at Riverside Drive to Henry Hudson Parkway and West 153rd Street. BBQ pits located at 145th Street and the Hudson River. Open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.

Thomas Jefferson Park; at First Avenue between West 111th and West 114th Streets. BBQ pits located at West 111th Street. Open daily 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Wards Island Park; at East River and Hell Gate. BBQ pits located near the children's playground. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Brooklyn:

Prospect Park; Prospect Park West, Parkside Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, Ocean Avenue and Prospect Park South West. BBQ pits are available on both sides of the Bandshell, at the north area of Long Meadow, along Prospect Park South West and 10th Avenue, along Vanderbuilt Street and Prospect Park South West, north of the Picnic House, around the Grecian Shelter Area, and south of the Wollman Rink. Open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.

Coffey Park; at Verona Street between Richard Street and Dwight Street. The barbecue pits are located between Richard and Verona Streets, and at Verona and Dwight Streets. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Fort Greene Park; at Myrtle Avenue and Dekalb Avenue between Washington Park and St. Edwards Street. BBQ pits located along Myrtle Avenue between North Portland Avenue and St. Edwards Street. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Kaiser Park; at Neptune Avenue and Bayview Avenue between West 24th and West 32nd Streets. There are 20 grills available at West 33rd Street. Open daily 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Queens:

Flushing Meadows Corona Park; situated at Grand Central Parkway, Whitestone Expressway between 111th Street and College Point Boulevard, Park Drive E. BBQ pits are located at Jewel Avenue and Van Wyck Expressway, off Lake West and off Lake East. Open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.

Alley Pond Park; situated at Little Neck Bay, Long Island Expressway, Union Turnpike between Springfield Boulevard, Douglaston Parkway, Hanford Street. BBQ pits located at Winchester Boulevard and Grand Central Parkway; Alley Athletic Field at Union Turnpike and Winchester Boulevard; and Alley Springfield at Springfield Boulevard and 76th Avenue. Open daily 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Bayswater Park; at Dwight Avenue, Seagirt Boulevard between Beach 38th Street and Bay 32nd Street. BBQ pits located at Beach Channel Drive and Bay 32nd Street. 

Brookville Park; at Brookville Boulevard and South Conduit Avenue between 149th Avenue, 232nd and 235th Streets. BBQ pits located at Brookville Boulevard and South Conduit Avenue. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Cunningham Park; at 73rd Avenue, Union Turnpike between 193rd Street, Francis Lewis Boulevard, Hollis Hills Terrace and 210th Street. BBQ pits located at Union Turnpike and Francis Lewis Boulevard. Open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.

Forest Park; at Myrtle Avenue, Union Turnpike, Park Lane South between Brooklyn-Queens County Line and Park Lane. BBQ pits located at Woodhaven Boulevard and Forest Park Drive. Open daily 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Highland Park; at Jackie Robinson Parkway, Vermont Avenue, Highland Boulevard between Bulwer Place and Cypress Hills Street. BBQ pits located at Upper Highland at Jamaica Avenue. 

Park; at Rockaway Boardwalk between Crest Road and Beach 17th Street. BBQ pits located between Beach 20th and 17th Streets.

Queensbridge Park; 21st Street, Bridge Plaza, Vernon Boulevard and East River. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Springfield Park North; Springfield Boulevard, 145th Road, Arthur Street. BBQ pits located at 147th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Bronx:

Van Cortlandt Park; between 242nd Street and Broadway. BBQ pits located at the Allen Shandler Recreation Center at Jerome Avenue south of 233rd Street; and in front of the pool at Broadway and 242nd Street. Open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m—5:00 p.m.

Crotona Park; at Fulton Avenue to Southern Boulevard and Crotona Park East. BBQ pits located at Crotona Park East and Charlotte Street (Indian Lake). Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Ferry Point Park; at Schley Avenue between Westchester Creek and Balcom Avenue. BBQ pits located at the north and south ends of the park. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Pelham Bay Park; at Hutchinson River, Long Island South between Middleton Road and Watt Avenue. BBQ pits located at Orchard Beach Park North and South Lawns, and Arnow Place and Bruckner Boulevard. Open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m — 5:00 p.m.

West Farms Rapids; at 180th Street and East Tremont Avenue. BBQ pits located at 180th Street fence line, and along Boston Road entrance.

MIll Pond Park; at Major Deegan Expressway between East 149th and East 153rd Streets. BBQ pits located at 149th Street across from Gateway Mall. 

St. Mary's Park; at St. Mary's Street between St. Ann's Avenue and Jackson Avenue. BBQ pits located at 146th Street and St. Ann's Avenue. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Staten Island:

Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach; which stretches from Fort Wadsworth To Miller Field, Fr. Capodanno Boulevard. BBQ pits located at Midland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. 

Wolfes Pond Park; bordered by Holton Avenue, Chisolm Street, Luten Avenue, Arbutus Avenue and Raritan Bay. BBQ pits located at Cornelia Avenue and Luten Avenue. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Willowbrook Park; bordered by Richmond Avenue, Victory Boulevard, Ashworth Avenue and Forest Hill Road. BBQ pits located at the Eaton Place Entrance. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 a.m.

Cloves Lakes Park; Forest Avenue, Victory Boulevard between Clove Road and Brookside Avenue. BBQ pits located at Clove Road and Victory Boulevard. Open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.
