CROWN HEIGHTS — Three teens and two men were arrested for illegal gun possession in the neighborhood this week, all taken into custody between Sunday night and Monday morning as the annual celebration of J’Ouvert took place in the area.

The first arrest came just after 10 p.m. Sunday night when police found a 17-year-old carrying a loaded .9mm semi-automatic Taurus handgun at the corner of Utica Avenue and Carroll Street.

Two hours later, just after midnight on Monday, a second 17-year-old was arrested on Montgomery Street between Utica and East New York avenues for possession of a loaded .22 caliber Beretta handgun.

At 4:30 a.m., two men were arrested at the corner of Fenimore Street and Bedford Avenue, each with a loaded handgun, police said.

Chris Beabran, 26, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon for carrying a loaded .9mm Smith & Wesson handgun. He faces several other charges including resisting arrest and is in custody on $7,500 bail, court records show.

At the same location, Kevenet Chosson, 21, was arrested for carrying a loaded .40 caliber Taurus handgun. He is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest and is being held on $7,500 bail, according to court records.

The fifth person to be arrested that day was a 17-year-old charged with carrying a .22 caliber Rohm RG3 revolver on Union Street between New York and Brooklyn avenues at 6:20 a.m.

Representatives for the five young men, all public defenders from the Legal Aid Society or Brooklyn Defender Services, could not be reached for comment.
