He’s been the Whip of the Congressional Black Caucus and served in the New York State Assembly. Now, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries is D.C.'s “Most Beautiful.”
The elected official representing Brooklyn and Queens was among the political figures named in The Hill’s “50 Most Beautiful” list, joining the ranks of the Capitol’s most sartorial staffers and well-coiffed correspondents.
While some on the list professed their love for yoga or barre or being a “big believer in hydrating,” Jeffries told the news site that he’s devoted to reforming the criminal justice system, his family, the Eighth Congressional District and fried fish.
“I try to eat fried fish at least once a week,” he told The Hill. “It’s something that is hard for me to resist.”
Among this year’s honorees were Ferial Govashiri, President Barack Obama’s personal secretary, and Pamela Brown, justice correspondent for CNN.
The list is compiled though nominations and any individual working in politics in Washington is eligible, according to The Hill. This year, the organization received more than 500 nominations.
Jeffries, 46, has been identified by pundits as a potential New York City mayoral candidate, though the Brooklyn Democrat has said he has “no interest” in running.
A representative for Jeffries did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the congressman’s latest honor.
