NEW YORK CITY — The last gasp of summer is giving grown-ups a chance to soak in the rays without screaming kids.

As the temperatures once again reach into the 90s, pools and beaches remain open for another week — while the city's kids traipse back to school.

Intermediate and Olympic-sized pools, such as Astoria Park Pool and McCarren Park Pool will stay open through Sunday while school starts on Thursday. City beaches will also be open through Sunday.

A high over more than 90 can be expected on Thursday and Friday, said Faye Barthold of the National Weather Service. That's about 10 degrees higher than normal, with temperatures in Central Park for this time of year usually at 78, she said.

On Saturday, the temperatures should reach the upper 80s and the mid 80s on Sunday, she said.
