FLATIRON — A purse snatcher knocked a 72-year-old woman to the ground during a robbery on West 28th Street, according to authorities.

The robber snuck up behind the woman just after 5 a.m. as she was walking between Fifth Avenue and Broadway, and grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground in the process, police said.

The victim's purse was carrying $100 and her cellphone, police said.

Security cameras near the scene captured footage of the man running away from the scene of the crime with the purse swinging behind him.

Police described the suspect as being in his 20s and he was seen wearing a baseball hat, a backpack, and a long sleeved shirt with a skull logo on the front.
