NORWOOD — A trio of would-be thieves attacked their victim with a dumbbell during an attempted robbery in The Bronx, police said.

The suspects pushed their way into the 43-year-old victim's apartment by Decatur Avenue and East 211th Street on Saturday around 1:40 a.m., punched him, kicked him and hit him with a 5-pound rubber-encased dumbbell, according to the NYPD.

They then combed through the victim's dresser drawers and closets but fled without taking anything, police said.

The victim's head was cut several times, and he was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, according to police.

Video shows the three suspects walking into the building and running out.

The first suspect was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black pants and a red hooded sweater, the second suspect was a man last seen in a gray hooded sweater, black sneakers, light jeans and a dark baseball hat, and the third suspect was a man last seen in white sneakers, dark pants, a black long sleeved shirt and a dark baseball hat, police said.

Anyone with information about this attempted robbery is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
