Man Critically Hurt After Slashing His and Mother's Throats, Sources Say

By Aidan Gardiner | August 26, 2016 2:35pm

QUEENS — A man was in critical condition after he slashed his 72-year-old mom's neck and then his own in her senior affordable housing facility in Bayside Friday afternoon, sources said.

The 47-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, spilled blood all over his mother's apartment inside the Scheuer House of Bayside at 208-11 26th Ave., near Corporal Kennedy Street, after the noon attack, sources said.

The suspect first slashed his mom's neck around noon with a kitchen knife in full view of her 61-year-old home health aide, who fled the scene to call 911, police said.

He then sat down on a recliner in the living room and slashed his own throat, spilling blood everywhere, police said.

He was treated at New York Hospital Queens, where he's listed in critical condition, police said.

The mom was treated at the same hospital and listed in stable condition, police said.

Staff at the senior facility, which is run by Selfhelp Community Services Inc., did not immediately return a request for comment.
