HARLEM — It was a matter of time.
A security officer at an East Harlem Target stopped a man who tried to swipe thousands of dollars worth of watches from the store last week, police said.
Jorge Marin, 44, walked into the store at East River Plaza on Aug. 14 at around 1 p.m. and began to stuff watches from the shelves into his pocket, police said.
The security officer saw Marin on the store’s surveillance camera trying to stuff about 26 watches in his pocket and stopped him from leaving, according to a criminal complaint.
The total value of the watches was about $1,220, according to police.
Marin was arrested and charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, according to a criminal complaint.
Marin pleaded guilty to the petit larceny charge, a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Late last month, a security officer at the store stopped a man who attempted to steal about $2,500 worth of electronics from the store, police said.
Marin’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
