THE BRONX — A Bronx man has pleaded guilty to helping run a prostitution business with his cousin and slashing an inmate in the face at Rikers Island.

Norwood resident Shakiem Washington, 35, pleaded guilty to the crimes on Monday and now faces up to 11 years in prison for sex trafficking and assault, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

He will also be designated as a sex offender and be subject to three years of post-release supervision.

His cousin Daniel Washington found an 18-year-old woman in Atlantic City early in 2011, where she had been abandoned by another pimp, and gave her to Washington, who made her work as a prostitute until June 2011, according to the Bronx DA's Office.

Washington then attacked an inmate on Rikers Island with three others on Aug. 10, 2015 by slashing him in the face, the Bronx DA's Office said.

He will be sentenced on Sept. 1, and his cousin Daniel Washington was sentenced in June 2015 after pleading guilty to assault and promoting prostitution, according to the Bronx DA's Office.

“This defendant forced a runaway girl into prostitution on the streets of Hunts Point, and in Brooklyn and Queens, by instilling fear of physical injury," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. "Sex trafficking is a despicable offense and this victim is slowly trying to recover from her exploitation."
