THE BRONX — A Bronx man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday for fatally shooting a livery cab driver in 2011, according to the Bronx District Attorney.

Devon Taylor, 29, and his children were in a cab driven by Julio Lora, 64, on March 31, 2011 and were dropped off at 921 Prospect Ave., the DA said.

When they stopped, Taylor's kids got out of the cab and the father pulled out a .45 caliber handgun, held it to Lora's head and demanded money from the driver.

Taylor, who lived at 1580 Hoe Ave., shot Lora in the neck and fled the car with $13, the DA said.

Lora died several months later on Aug. 23, 2011.

“The defendant shot Julio Lora, a hardworking man, for a few dollars,” District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. “The victim was on life support for five months before he lost his courageous battle. The defendant will spend 25 years in prison for his callous, brutal crime.”

The father pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on May 16.

Taylor said at the sentencing that he could not recall what happened during the shooting and he looked to be possibly under the influence of drugs on video of the incident, according to his lawyer, Jason Foy.
