WOODSIDE — Long Island Rail Road train service was expected to be delayed or in some cases canceled completely into the Monday evening rush after a maintenance car derailed late Sunday night in Queens, MTA officials said.

The derailment, which happened at the Hunterspoint Avenue station in Queens before midnight on Sunday, wreaked havoc during the Monday morning commute as 15 Penn Station-bound trains along 11 LIRR branches were canceled and and remaining trains were diverted to the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn.

MTA officials initially said they'd have the repairs completed by Monday afternoon, but later revised the status to continued cancelations and delays during evening rush hour on Monday.

There were no injuries during the derailment, which happened during scheduled maintenance work in Woodside.

Riders took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.
