Mike Pence Comes to New York City, Eats at Chili’s

By Paul DeBenedetto | July 17, 2016 9:23am | Updated on July 18, 2016 7:39am

Ah, New York! A city world-renowned as a culinary destination. You can’t take more than a few steps without coming across any number of delicious dinner choices. Whether it be fine dining, or just a slice of world-class pizza, there’s no dearth of options in the Big Apple.

So when Indiana governor and presumptive GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence made a quick stop here for the official announcement that he would be on the Republican ticket with Donald Trump, it was a good opportunity to take advantage of some of the best New York has to offer. So what did he choose: Perhaps a stop at Lombardi’s? A pastrami sandwich at Katz’s? Maybe he knew a guy who knew a guy, and scored a table at Rao’s?

Buddy.

We’ll give Gov. Pence the benefit of doubt since NBC reported the meal was a last-minute pre-flight stop at a Chili's near the airport in Teterboro, New Jersey arranged when his flight was delayed by an hour. Still, this is almost as bad as the Ghostbusters ordering pizza from Papa John’s.

As you can imagine, Twitter reactions were pretty harsh:

Hopefully Pence and his family will have a chance to sit down for a proper New York meal one of these days.
