CIVIC CENTER — A woman was charged with murder and attempted murder for a 4th of July stabbing that left a mother dead and her daughter injured in their Harlem apartment building.

Michelle Kenny, 38, was celebrating the 21st birthday of her daughter, Tomiesha Abraham, in their Harlem apartment building on Monday night, when they became involved in a fight with Ashanti Daniels, 26, in the building's ninth floor hallway.

Daniels stabbed Kenny in the chest, head, arm and cheek with a knife before stabbing Abraham in the abdomen, according to the Manhattan District Attorney.

Kenny was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai, St. Luke's, police said.

Her daughter was taken to the same hospital and was in stable condition after the attack, according to the NYPD.

Daniels was arraigned Wednesday with murder in the second degree and attempted murder in the second degree, but the district attorney's office decided not to prosecute two other men who were charged by police with assault and tampering with evidence.
