3-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling Out of Harlem Apartment Window: NYPD

MANHATTAN — The mother of a 3-year-old boy, who died Sunday night when he fell out of a 13th floor window in the Harlem River Houses, was not a resident of the apartment, city officials said.

Latyr Sene was in his apartment with his mom when he fell from the window at 2850 Eighth Ave., near West 151st Street, about 7:11 p.m., NYPD officials said.

Latyr was then rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

NYCHA told DNAinfo New York that neither the mother or the child were on the lease as residents and declined to release any additional information, citing an on-going investigation.

“We are deeply saddened about the death of the young boy at Harlem River Houses II. This tragic incident is still under investigation by NYPD Housing Bureau,” a NYCHA spokesperson said in an official statement.

There were no immediate arrests, but police confirmed they are investigating the death.

NYCHA declined to give specifics regarding any past security complaints or issues regarding window guards. It is not clear at this time if the window in the apartment had a guard as the investigation is pending.

The agency said property owners, including NYCHA, are required by city law to install and maintain window guards in an apartment where a child 10 years of age or younger resides.

The agency also said if a child 10 years of age or younger resides in an apartment, it is the tenant’s responsibility to call NYCHA’s Customer Contact Center immediately to have window guards installed and maintained.
