MIDTOWN — A woman was critically injured when a vehicle hit her in Midtown Friday morning, officials said.

The woman was hit near Second Avenue and East 58th Street about 11:08 a.m., according to FDNY and NYPD spokesmen.

Witnesses found the unconscious woman behind the front wheels of a white Tundra pickup truck that had just completed a left turn off Second Avenue.

Jerry Minkoff, 65, who works at Raysco Cleaners on Second Avenue, heard screams and saw the woman lying underneath a white pickup truck.

"She was bleeding from the head," he said, "She was very still."

"She was having a tough time breathing," said Lou Corbo, 56, who described the victim as an older Asian woman with dark hair and a frail frame.  "Her ears and mouth were bleeding."

The Tundra driver, who stayed at the scene, appeared shaken, according to Corbo.

"He was walking around holding his head in his hands," said Corbo.

The woman was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment, an FDNY spokesman said.

Police found a pair of multi-colored ballet flats were found underneath the truck.

The eastern crosswalk of East 58th Street and Second Avenue said it is a particularly hazardous intersection, according to nearby residents.

Emre Nebioglu, 37, who works at Pianeta Legno on Second Avenue, often has to jump out of the crosswalk to avoid cars making left turns, he said.

"I've never been hit," said Nebioglu, "but it's been close."

"The drivers just zoom right through," said local Deborah Shatzkes, 53, who has seen four similar accidents on the crosswalk in the past eight months.

"It's a horribly dangerous situation."
