NEW YORK CITY — Those trash bags full of barbecue remains and beer bottles from the first half of the Independence Day weekend will have to wait — garbage will not be collected on Monday, July 4, the Sanitation Department said.

Sanitation workers also won't be picking up recycling or organics, or doing street cleaning on the Fourth of July.

New Yorkers who normally receive Monday garbage collection should bring their trash out to the curb for pickup after 4 p.m. on Monday for pickup on Tuesday, according to officials.

Residents who have recycling pickup on Mondays will have to wait until July 11.

All Sanitation Department offices will also be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday.
