Where to Get Free Yoga Classes in NYC This Summer

While there's no denying yoga's benefits, taking yoga classes in the city can be tough on the wallet. But luckily, there's no better time than the summer to score some free instruction on the ancient practice.

These free yoga classes are worth checking out in the next few months:

Shapeup Yoga 

Where: Harlem Hospital Center, 506 Lenox Ave., Harlem
When: Mondays 7 to 8 p.m. 

Yogis at all skill levels are welcome at this yoga class. Participants will focus on overall body strength as well as flexibility. 

Bryant Park Yoga

Where: Bryant Park Lawn and Upper Terrance, Midtown
When: Tuesdays 10 to 11 a.m., Thursdays 6 to 7 p.m. until Sept. 22.

When you register on site for this class, you'll be able to get a frequent yogi card and earn rewards from both Athleta and Yoga Journal. 

Yoga Tuesdays

Where: Stuyvesant Square, 17th Street and Second Avenue, Gramercy Park
When: now through July 19th, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. 

This part of Manhattan sees a lot of foot traffic, so try to head to the park with your mat a little early and secure your stretching spot.

Chakra Yoga

Where: A.R.R.O.W Field House, 35-30 35th St., Astoria
When: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 to 7 p.m. 

This class will teach yogis how to focus their chakra energy and how to use it to relax while doing the stretches. 

Socrates Sculpture Park Yoga

Where: Socrates Sculpture Park, Astoria
When: Saturday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 11 to 12 a.m., Sunday 10 to 11 a.m. through Sept. 25. 

Bring a mat or towel and practice yoga along the waterfront. These classes incorporate a system of Hatha yoga which focuses on breathing and body posture for better fitness and relaxation. 

Shapeup Yoga 

Where: St. John's Recreation Center, 1251 Prospect Place, Crown Heights
When: Mondays 8 to 9 a.m., Tuesdays 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays 8 to 9 a.m. 

These classes will focus on core strength alongside flexibility. Bring your mat and watch your abs tone up throughout the next few months.

Good Yoga

Where: North 5th St. Pier, Williamsburg (Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.) and Transmitter Park (Sundays at 7 p.m.)
When: now through Sept. 4.

Bring your own mat and enjoy the vinyasa flow yoga right by the water. It's open to every level. All you have to do when you get to the pier is find the instructor with the red "Good Yoga" shirt.
