The Dominican Film Festival opened Wednesday in Manhattan. The first festival was held in Washington Heights in 2011, making this the 5th year that New Yorkers get to see movies straight from Quisqueya.

When:

The festival begins on Wednesday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m.

It ends on Sunday, June 26, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where:

There are several venues for the film festival; all of them are in Washington Heights. Check out the schedule for the films for each location here

United Palace, 4140 Broadway

Columbia Alumni Auditorium, 650 W. 168th St.

Hall of Fame Theater, 216 Forth Washington Ave.

Comisionado Dominicano de la Cultura en los EE UU, 541 W. 145th St.

Tickets:

► Tickets can be purchased here on the film festival's website. They can also be purchased at each venue.

► General admission is $12. Admission to the opening night reception and closing night reception is $20.

► The film festival "Pass A" allows for patrons to attend 10 films for $80. The offer doesn't apply to opening and closing night, or to the receptions.

► "Pass B" allows patrons to attend five films for $40. Just like Pass A, this does not apply to opening and closing nights or any of the receptions.

Movie Highlights:

► According to Armando Guareno, the festival's founder and executive director, this year's lineup is much more selective than in previous years. Films were picked exclusively for quality and the festival features some of the best new Dominican films, he said.

► Unlike earlier years, this year's fest will include a wide variety of genres including comedy, romance, and even documentary.

► One film to keep an eye out is "Nana," a documentary about Dominican nannies who raise rich, American children at the cost of neglecting their own children.
