The Staten Island Yankees need a new name.
The team, known as the Yankees for 15 years and affiliated with the New York Yankees, is looking to re-brand itself in hopes of increasing popularity.
It's asking fans for ideas — obviously not learning the lesson taught in the United Kingdom when 124,000 people voted to name a $300 million research ship Boaty McBoatface.
The name change will be announced in time for the 2017 New York-Penn League Season. The team will maintain its connection with the New York Yankees, but now with an identity of its own.
The team made the call for name suggestions on Monday and is requesting that fans use this link to send in their ideas.
Who knows? Sporty McSportface might look great on a jersey.
