If it seems like more and more TV shows and movies are filming across New York City, it's because they are.

In their study of city film permit data from 2012-2016, Renthop found that permits for television production increased 15 percent over that time, while the amount of film permits dipped in 2014.

Though shows and movies are filmed year-round in NYC, there are months when shooting and production spike significantly.

Here's a look at a few of Renthop's findings:

► You're more likely to come across a set in August, September, and October as opposed to the rest of the year. Between 2012 and 2016, August had around 350 television productions shooting, September had around 340, and October had a little more than 400 sets.

► May and June have the least amount of television filming in the year. Between 2012 and 2016, both months had less than 150 television productions shooting.

► Feature films are more likely to be filmed in NYC during June and October. Between 2012 and 2016, more than 130 movies were filmed across the city during those two months.

► Feature films are least likely to be filmed in January. In the last four years, less than 40 feature films were filmed in NYC during that month.

Locations:

Certain area codes are hotter destinations than many others for TV and film shoots:

► According to a map on Renthop, TV shows are more likely to be filmed in the Financial District, in the Civic Center area downtown, on the Upper East Side, in the West Village and in Greenpoint.

► The Financial District was the top location for shooting feature films. Other popular locations were around Penn Station and in other parts of Hell's Kitchen.

► Both movies and TV shows were less likely to be filmed in Staten Island, Northern Bronx, and most of East and Southern Brooklyn.
