LIVINGSTON — The farm at Snug Harbor will open its yearly market this week selling organic produce grown at the former sailors' retirement community.

The 2.5-acre Heritage Farm — on the grounds of Snug Harbor — will open its 2016 season Friday and offer fruits, vegetables and herbs for sale every week.

"We are pleased to offer nutritious, farm-fresh produce and herbs at affordable prices to members of our local community," Snug Harbor CEO Lynn Kelly said.

The market will be open from 3 to 6 p.m., or until supplies run out, every Friday at the southeast corner of the park until the fall, according to Snug Harbor.

Aside from selling produce, the stand will also serve as a Department of Sanitation food scrap drop-off site where people can bring waste for the NYC Compost Project, Snug Harbor said.

Heritage Farm — which opened in 2012 at Snug Harbor — also partnered with Food Bank for New York City to donate some of its produce to local food pantries and soup kitchens and will offer training sessions for groups on starting and maintaining farms in the city, Snug Harbor said.
