TIMES SQUARE — A straphanger caught masturbating aboard a Q train at the start of rush hour said, "everyone does it" after a fellow passenger spotted him, the NYPD said.
Peter Savarino, 27, was riding southbound from the 57th Street-7th Avenue station to the 49th Street station near Seventh Avenue around 4:35 p.m. on June 6 when a passenger saw the man expose himself and masturbate, police and a complaint filed with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said.
“Everyone does it,” Savarino said at some point after the 30-year-old passenger witnessed the incident.
He was charged with public lewdness and exposure, the DA’s office said.
Savarino was released on $1,500 bail Friday and is expected to next appear in court on Aug. 9, according to the DA’s office and city Department of Correction records.
An attorney for the man declined to comment on the incident Monday.
