RED HOOK — Red Hook's Engine 202/Battalion 32 will be temporarily relocated from their Richards Street firehouse for nine months as a $1.6 million toilet renovation gets underway, officials said Thursday.

Beginning June 29, Engine Company 202 will move nearly a mile from 31 Richards St. to 252 Lorraine St. to share space with Engine Company 279, according to a letter shared by Brooklyn's Community Board 6 from the FDNY this week.

Battalion 32 will be relocated to 274 Hicks St. in Brooklyn Heights — about 1.5 miles away — to occupy the firehouse with Engine Company 224.

Ladder 101, which is also located in the building at 31 Richards St., will remain at the firehouse during the renovation, FDNY spokesman Frank Dwyer said.

The $1.6 million renovation includes a new ADA-compliant toilet as well as a bathroom and locker for female firefighters on the second floor. There will also be replacements and updates to fixtures and appliances in all bathrooms and the laundry room, Dwyer said in an email.

The project also includes additions to the apparatus floor, which is used by firefighters after returning from fires and other incidents, he said.

Dwyer added that companies are routinely relocated while firehouses are being renovated. They are expected to return to the Richards Street firehouse in April 2017.

"The fire companies and dispatchers are aware of the location of each company and that factors into dispatch," the spokesman said.
