The Latest Must-Have Pastry in NYC: Birthday Cake Croissant

It's not quite as flashy as the rainbow donut or the rainbow bagel, but that doesn't mean the birthday cake croissant at Union Fare Gastrohall in Union Square isn't destined for viral fame.

The creation of pastry chef Thiago Silva, the $5 funfetti birthday cake croissant with mascarpone filling made its debut Tuesday morning, The Daily Meal reported

It's one among several fanciful croissant varieties offered at the new bakery, one component of a gastrohall located in part of the original Barnes & Noble bookstore

Other flavors to choose from include cookies and cream, crème brûlée, everything, green tea, ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and red velvet. 

The bakery will also sell such baked goods as German pretzels and pretzel rolls.
