CROWN HEIGHTS — Police are looking for a man they say pickpocketed a 78-year-old man on a residential block last month.

The victim was standing outside on the corner of Midwood Street and Palm Court around 7:00 p.m. on May 11 when the suspect came up behind the elderly man, reached into his pants pocket, swiped $18 in cash and fled on foot.

The police department released two photos of the suspect taken from surveillance footage that show the man walking along a sidewalk and walking up steps in a dark colored sweater, blue jeans and black sneakers.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to call the department’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish (888)-57-PISTA (74782).

Overall, thefts are down in the area where the May 11 incident took place, according to NYPD statistics. In the 71st Precinct, robberies, burglaries and grand larcenies are down 35, 27 and 13 percent so far this year when compared to the same period in 2015, the most recent crime records show.
