Check out dozens of locally grown Brooklyn bands as well as national acts this week as part of the Northside Festival, a massive, neighborhood-wide music festival.

The event features more than 400 artists including Brian WilsonWolf Parade and Conor Oberst formerly of Bright Eyes.

Twenty-six local venues across North Brooklyn will open their doors, locales that range from wacky, DIY spaces like Aviv and Palisades to bigger venues like Brooklyn Bowl and Baby's Alright. In addition to regular concert venues, there's an outdoor McCarren Park stage where bigger names like The Felice Brothers and Grandmaster Flash will play.

Music starts on Thursday afternoon. You can buy tickets to individual shows, or full music passes cost $85 and allow access to all the shows from Thursday to Sunday.

It's an excellent chance to check out venues you've been meaning to visit and artists you've wanted to hear, all in a few-day span.

Here are some of the baddest women artists who'll perform as part of the 8th annual festival. Mark your calendars!

Chanase Elife's powerful pipes will blow you away. She's playing at Thursday night at 9:40 p.m. at House of Yes (2 Wyckoff Ave.)

Twist's grungy rock sound is a throwback to My Bloody Valentine. They play Thursday at Alphaville (140 Wilson Ave. ) at 9 p.m.

Psycho alt-rock band Heliotropes play at Gold Sounds (44 Wilson Ave.) Friday 7 p.m.

Check out the haunting melodies of Blue Crime. They play Friday night at 8:15 p.m. at Palisades (906 Broadway).

Irreverent rockers Boytoy play 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night at Our Wicked Lady (153 Morgan Ave.)

Soothing vocalist and guitar player Frankie Cosmos takes the stage at Rough Trade (64 North 9th St.) 11 p.m. Saturday.

With bold lyrics and harmonies this powerful, melodic rock trio And the Kids will play Saturday at the Knitting Factory (361 Metropolitan Ave.) at 9:15 p.m.

Somewhere between dance-y, electro-pop and rock 'n' roll, Tomboi plays at Shea Stadium 10:30 p.m. Sunday night.
