Burglar Caught on Video Picking at Lock of East 25th Street Apartment: NYPD

KIPS BAY — A thief who stole electronics from an East 25th Street home last week was caught on camera picking at the lock of the apartment backdoor just before the burglary, according to police.

The suspect broke into an apartment at 214 E. 25th St. between Second and Third avenues on May 29 between noon and 7 p.m. by breaking a basement window, and made off with two iPad Minis, a Chromebook laptop, and a Fitbit Blaze, according to a police report.

In an initial attempt to get into the building, the burglar was captured by a security camera as he tried to break into a backdoor entrance, police said.

The footage, which police released on Monday, shows the suspect as a bald man wearing a red T-shirt and gray sweatpants.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit tips on the website.
