GREAT KILLS — An assistant principal stabbed his ex-wife's former lover as the victim sat inside a car in a Staten Island parking lot, a law enforcement source said.

Vincent Scotto, 43, an assistant principal at P.S. 22, stabbed a 59-year-old man at the Evergreen Shopping Plaza, at 150 Greaves Lane, on Saturday afternoon, the NYPD said.

The victim was sitting inside his car when Scotto walked up to the driver's side window and stabbed him several times with a razor blade attached to a stick in the lower torso, left arm and right middle finger, prosecutors said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital and needed to get staples and stitches for his injuries, prosecutors said.

Scotto, of Great Kills, was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon at his Monday arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

Scotto's bail was set at $2,500 cash, according to the DA.

The victim had a long-term affair with Scotto's wife while she was married, but began harassing the family after she broke it off two years ago, the New York Post reported.

Scotto has worked for P.S. 22 since 2004 and was made an assistant principal in 2007, according to the Department of Education.

"This individual has been reassigned away from the school and he will remain reassigned pending the resolution of this criminal case," DOE spokeswoman Devora Kaye said in a statement.

Contact information for Scotto's lawyer was not immediately available.
