CONCOURSE — Thieves surrounded a man driving his car, slashed his face and stole $8,000 he had sitting in the passenger's seat in The Bronx Thursday night, police said.

The 36-year-old driver, whose name wasn't immediately released, had just cashed an $8,000 check and stopped his black 2009 Volkswagen Jetta near 157th Street and Gerard Avenue about 10:22 p.m. when four men surrounded him, an NYPD spokesman said.

One man on the driver's side hit him with a sharp object, cutting the right side of his face and neck, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, two others reached in on the other side and pulled out the cash sitting in on the passenger's seat, police said.

The driver hit the gas but slammed into two parked cars as the suspects fled the scene, police said. There were no immediate arrests, police said.

The victim was treated at Lincoln Medical Center where he's listed in stable condition, police said.
