STATEN ISLAND — A chart-topping doo-wop group, a Beatles cover band and crooners are set to perform free concerts all over Staten Island this summer, Borough President James Oddo announced Wednesday.

Oddo announced that his "Sunset Summer Concert Series" — held in partnership with Councilmembers Debi Rose, Steven Matteo and Joe Borelli — will start on June 30 and bring free shows from 18 local acts at parks throughout the borough every Thursday until Aug. 18.

Aside from the "Sunset Summer Concert Series," Oddo will partner with the Carl V. Bini Memorial Foundation to bring the annual "Back to the Beach" event, with 20 local bands on three stages, back to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk on June 16 and 17.

The series of concerts will end on Aug. 20, with the "Home Sweet Home" show at the Midland Beach Splaza headlined by South Beach natives Vito Picone and the Elegants, who hit it big with their doo-wop song "Little Star" in 1958, Oddo said.
