JACKSON HEIGHTS — A local lawmaker is looking for intergalactic help to fight noisy airplanes over Queens.

Rep. Grace Meng met last week with officials from NASA, which is working to decrease aircraft noise in the hopes of making their findings available for use by commercial planes.

“I'll talk to anybody who can play a role in mitigating airplane noise over our borough,” Meng said in a statement.

She sat down with Dr. Jaiwon Shin, an associate administrator for the aeronautics research mission directorate at NASA, which is looking at the shape of planes and newer engines as ways to make them more quiet while flying.

NASA is also testing a flight method that would limit how long it takes for a plane to descend, which would help out those living around airports.

Meng has blasted the Federal Aviation Administration, which oversees plane noise, for "doing virtually nothing" about airplane noise, which plagues many neighborhoods surrounding LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports. She has asked the Environmental Protection Agency to take over monitoring the nuisance.

Jackson Heights topped the list of complaints last year to the Port Authority's hotline tracking noise planes.
