BROOKLYN — Police released a photo Tuesday of the getaway vehicle in an attempted robbery and shooting in East New York that left a 21-year-old stone mason in critical condition

The suspect — described by police as a 35- to 40-year-old man who fled in a 2004/2005 Green Chrysler Pacifica with New York license plates — approached the victim as he was working on the corner of Shepherd and Belmont avenues around 10:50 a.m. Monday, police and coworkers said.

"He said, 'Give me your chain' and he tried to snatch it," the victim's boss, Ranjip Singh, told DNAinfo New York Monday. The victim's name is being withheld by DNAinfo while the suspect is at large.

When the victim refused, the suspect shot him several times, hitting him in the arm and torso, police said.

Two bystanders applied pressure to the victim's wounds until emergency crews could take him to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition.

Singh said the victim underwent surgery Monday afternoon, and an NYPD spokeswoman Tuesday said he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
