Is the 'Donutccino' the Next Funky Food Craze?

By Jeanmarie Evelly | May 20, 2016 11:36am | Updated on May 22, 2016 10:33pm

This Astoria coffee shop knows New Yorker's appetite for strange new hybrid foods is insatiable.

That's why Gossip Coffee's bringing the Cronut, the Rainbow Bagel and decked-out milkshake together, to make: the 'donutccino.'

"It's a little food fusion," said Bryan Clopton, a barista at Gossip Coffee at 37-04 30th Ave., which began offering the coffee/dessert concoctions last week.

The donutccino is an iced coffee drink garnished with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles, all topped with a donut that hangs on its straw.

The drink features Gossip's New Orleans cold brew coffee, which is made with half-and-half and sweetened with maple syrup.

It's finished off with one of Chef "Scottish" Francis Legge's donuts, a treat the baker became known for when he appeared on the FOX reality cooking show "MasterChef."

Clopton said the type of donut depends on whatever flavor is being featured that day, though it's often their traditional glazed.

Donutccinos are one size only and cost $6.50. They're typically only offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, though they occasionally make them during the week, Clopton said.
