STATEN ISLAND — Councilman Joe Borelli announced seven traffic improvements he's pushing to get in the 10309 zip code, part of his effort to improve transportation in every neighborhood in his district.

Borelli said the improvements are mainly smaller ones the city can easily implement but will help with the daily frustrations drivers and pedestrians in Charleston, Richmond Valley, Tottenville, Rossville, Prince's Bay and Pleasant Plains face.

"I believe that the following recommendations should be considered because even the smallest changes can have a lasting effect on the flow of traffic in this area," Borelli wrote to the Department of Transportation.

The seven-point plan Borelli developed for traffic improvements includes:

► Installing an Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk with a pedestrian ramp at Arthur Kill Road and Veterans Road West, Arthur Kill Road between the Charleston Bus Depot and Veteran Road West, and Veterans Road West between Arthur Kill Road and Bricktown Way
► A dedicated left-turn lane at Foster Road onto Woodrow Avenue and Rossville Avenue onto Woodrow Road
► Repainting the lane markers at Page Avenue between Boscombe Avenue and Richmond Valley Road
► Maintaining the raised medians at Veterans Road West between Bricktown Way and Enlgewood Avenue and at Page Avenue in front of P.S. 6
► Resurfacing Veterans Road West between Arthur Kill Road and Tyrellan Avenue and Sharrotts Road between Arthur Kill Road and the dead end
► Replacing speed bumps on Woodvale Avenue between Hylan Boulevard and Amboy Road
► Completing the buildout of Englewood Avenue and adding another connection to Arthur Kill Road and Veterans Road West

"We thank the councilmember for his recommendations to improve traffic and pedestrian safety in the 10309 zip code," a spokesman for the DOT said in a statement.

"Just last month, Commissioner Trottenberg and Councilman Borelli toured his district, including many areas in the 10309 zip code, so we greatly appreciate his input."
