UPPER WEST SIDE — Four people were injured when a black sedan slammed into a yellow cab on Broadway on Monday afternoon and then fled the scene, according to police.
The crash happened at West 62nd Street and Broadway at 4:38 p.m., critically injuring a 39-year-old woman. Three other people suffered injuries, police said.
A witness who works nearby said he saw the black sedan slam into the cab and then take off. The cab then jumped the curb and slammed into the food cart, pinning a woman underneath, he said.
"I looked down and there’s a lady pinned under the hot dog cart. I yelled for help. Me and and a couple of guys lift the stand off the lady’s arm," said the 28-year-old witness who said he name was Dan. The woman's arm was “basically hanging on by a piece of skin,” he said.
She was treated at Bellevue Hospital where she's listed in critical condition, police said Tuesday morning.
A 23-year-old man, who was treated for a broken nose and cuts to his right arm, and a 50-year-old man with a broken arm were treated at St. Luke's Hospital, police said. A 42-year-old man was treated for bruises to his right arm at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, police said.
Laurie Adams, who witnessed the aftermath, said a woman was put in a neck brace.
"She looked really hurt," Adams said. "You could see her arm was broken. Her bones were sticking out."
Adams said one of the victims was a man in a motorized wheelchair who appeared to be alert and talking to emergency workers.
Hopkins said several people were in the cab at the time of the crash, and one of the men was bleeding from his nose.
Police are searching for a black Honda Accord with Pennsylvania license plates that has damage to the front passenger's side, officials said.
