BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — If you’re serious about nabbing an apartment in a new affordable apartment building next to the Barclays Center, put this on your calendar.

Next week, anyone interested in living in one of 181 affordable rentals at 461 Dean St. is invited to a workshop to learn how to apply at the building where studios start at $559 a month.

The event will take place at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration on May 16, according to a notice from Mutual Housing New York, the group organizing the lottery on behalf of the building developers, Forest City Ratner Companies.

The 363-unit Pacific Park/Atlantic Yards tower is located on Flatbush Avenue directly next to the Brooklyn Nets' arena. The building will include half market-rate apartments and half affordable units, set aside for residents and families making between $20,675 and $144,960 per year, depending on household size.

All of the affordable apartments in the building will be awarded to tenants through the city’s Housing Connect lottery system, which requires an online or paper application.

In half of the affordable apartments, preference will be given to residents of nearby community board districts 2, 3, 6 and 8, the requirements said. Five percent of the units will be set aside for applicants with mobility disabilities and 2 percent will be reserved for tenants with hearing disabilities. Preference will be given to municipal employees for 5 percent of the apartments.

Mutual Housing encourages anyone who wants more information or assistance in applying for the lottery to attend the May 16 information session, set for 6 p.m. at 1378 Fulton St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Attendees should RSVP by email at 461dean@mutualhousingny.org.
