GREAT KILLS — A raid on a Great Kills home turned up guns, cocaine and crack, prosecutors said.
Michael Cruz, 33, was arrested Thursday after police found the contraband during a search at his Lennon Court home, District Attorney Michael McMahon said.
"As we continue to lose a Staten Islander every two days to the drug crisis consuming our Island, it is clear that the drug trade and the violent criminal activity that surrounds this trade is a threat to the safety and security of our City," McMahon said in a statement.
"This office has made it a priority to hold the drug dealers who profit from the pain and addiction of Staten Islanders accountable for their crimes."
On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at Cruz's home and found a .45 loaded caliber pistol and two bags of crack in a secret compartment behind his bathroom's medicine cabinet, a loaded Smith and Wesson 357 magnum revolver nearby, 180 rounds of ammunition, cocaine on top of his toilet, two scales, a crack cocaine mixer and a compound mixer, prosecutors said.
Cruz was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a weapon at his Friday arraignment, the DA said.
His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
