KIPS BAY — A group of roughly 10 teenagers ganged up on a woman on a East 27th Street sidewalk, attacking her and smashing her phone, according to a police report.

Karyss Davis, 19, of Kips Bay, and a group of minors surrounded a 39-year-old woman on the sidewalk at East 27th Street and Second Avenue just after 9 p.m. on April 28.

They began punching and kicking her and pulling her hair, police said. During the scuffle, one of the attackers threw the woman’s phone to the ground, smashing it, police said.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the attack, but police said the woman, who lives in the area, and her tormentors did not know each other.

When officers nearby rushed to break up the fight, Davis and her cohorts pushed police in an effort to escape handcuffs, police said. Officers managed to arrest Davis and three minors at the scene, according to a report.

Prosecutors charged Davis with assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, while the three minors were charged with disorderly conduct, according to court records. A judge released Davis without bail, and issued a restraining order forbidding her from going near the victim, records show.

A lawyer for Davis did not respond to a request for comment.
