Teen Whips Man in Head With Metal Dog Chain, Police Say

HELL’S KITCHEN — A teen whipped a man in the head and elbow with a metal dog chain as the victim walked down the street with his girlfriend, police said.

The 27-year-old victim, from Manhattan, was walking near the northwest corner of West 55th Street and Ninth Avenue with his girlfriend around 10:30 p.m. on April 17 when Ronold Irving, 18, struck the man’s head and arm with the chain, according to police and a complaint filed with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

The attack left the man with lacerations, bleeding and “substantial pain” to his head and right elbow, the complaint said.

Irving, of The Bronx, was arrested and charged with assault, the DA’s office said.

Neither police nor the DA’s office said what motivated the attack.

City Department of Correction records show Irving was released after paying bail, which was set at $1,500, the DA’s office said.

He is expected to next appear in court on June 28.

An attorney for Irving did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
