RED HOOK — A massive pileup at a brakeless bike race in Red Hook left multiple cyclists injured Saturday night, according to reports and videos shot of the incident.
At least seven people were injured as a result of the crash, Gothamist reports.
According to video and reports, a motorcyclist, who was supposed to stay ahead of pack as a pace vehicle, stalled just around a corner near the start of the men's race.
Several cyclists then crashed into the motorcycle, which led to the pileup, the video shows.
The Red Hook Criterium returned for its ninth year in the neighborhood on Saturday night.
Hundreds of professional cyclists from around the world were expected to take part in the April 30 event at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
Since beginning in 2008, the race has expanded to Barcelona, Milan and London.
