MANHATTAN — Three staffers had to undergo decontamination when an envelope full of white powder mailed to Donald Trump's presidential campaign headquarters was opened there Thursday night, police said.
The envelope addressed to the Republican front-runner was opened about 7:40 p.m. inside the campaign office at Trump Tower at 725 Fifth Ave., near East 57th Street, an NYPD spokesman said.
Staffers put the envelope into a plastic envelope and called Secret Service who in turn called 911, police said.
A hazardous materials team was dispatched to the scene along with the Department of Environmental Protection, police said.
Three staffers underwent decontamination, police said.
It wasn't immediately clear if the white powder was harmful, but police said their investigation is ongoing.
Similarly, an envelope of white powder was mailed to Trump's son Eric on March 17. The letter demanded his father withdraw from the presidential race.
