CARROLL GARDENS — Smorgasburg's Dosa Royale closed its brick-and-mortar restaurant in Carroll Gardens this past weekend as its owners plan to move the eatery to Clinton Hill next month.

The south Indian eatery opened in 2013 at 316 Court St. near Sackett Street, serving savory crepes called dosas, meat and vegetable curries and appetizers such as samosas.

But Sunday, April 24, was Dosa Royale's last day in business on Court Street, said Heather Rajamani, who owns Dosa Royale with her husband, Thiru.

Several factors went into their decision to shutter the location, but it was mainly because of the lack of diners during the week and during summer months, she said.

"The biggest one is that we were really only busy on the weekends," Rajamani said Tuesday morning. "It just wasn't a sustainable business model for us."

The couple, who live in the Fort Greene area with their two young children, heard about an available space with cheaper rent at 258 Dekalb Ave. and decided to move Dosa Royale to Clinton Hill.

"It just made more sense for out family to keep everything close together," said Rajamani, who also owns Fort Greene's Dino with her husband.

The new Dosa Royale in Clinton Hill is slated to open in the first half of May, she added. The menu will be similar to the Carroll Gardens location, but with a few new additions such as kababs, kati rolls and North Indian snacks.

Dosa Royale will continue to run its stand at Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg.
