Pop superstar Prince, who died Thursday morning in his Minnesota home at age 57, performed all over the globe in his one-of-a-kind stage costumes.

He wore one of our favorites at one of his earliest concerts in New York City, a show with his band on Feb. 15, 1980 at the Greenwich Village music club The Bottom Line. (The club, a music industry landmark for almost three decades, parted from this world long before Prince, in 2004.)

Greenwich Village was a stop on a tour promoting Prince's eponymous second album, released on Oct. 19, 1979.

Witness the master in action:

Those thigh high boots...

At some point, the top half of the ensemble came off.

Red firefighter suspenders made an admirable showing, too, that night.

But who are we kidding? We'd much rather remember Prince looking fierce this way:

A hat tip to our friends at Retronaut, who recently wrote about this glorious show.
