MIDTOWN — Motorists in Midtown East should expect delays and detours this week thanks to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is being held on Thursday and Friday.
Beginning on Wednesday night, a number of road closures will affect the area around the UN as police officers set up security for the convention, according to a statement from the NYPD.
Here's a breakdown of traffic disruptions.
At about 9 p.m. on Wednesday and lasting for the duration of the convention, the following streets near the United Nations will be closed to vehicular traffic:
► First Avenue between 42nd and 48th streets. The tunnel underpass from 41st Street to 48 Street will remain open
► 44th Street between First and Second avenues
► 45th Street between First and Second avenues
► 46th Street between First and Second avenues
Beginning on Wednesday night and lasting through the end of the convention on Friday evening, the following streets will have one traffic lane dedicated to emergency vehicles for the duration of the convention:
►42nd Street between First and to Fifth avenues
►Second Avenue between 41st and 57th streets
On Thursday and Friday, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at approximately 5 a.m. and ending in the evening at the close of the day’s session:
► 42nd Street between FDR Drive and Second Avenue
► 42nd Street exit and entrance ramps for FDR Drive
